The Swimming Teacher

About Rebecca

🌊 About Rebecca
Growing up in North East Australia, the pool wasn’t just a place to play—it was a way of life. Under the heat of the Australian sun, Rebecca developed a lifelong love for the water. With a father who was a scuba diving instructor, she was fortunate to gain extensive experience from an early age, going on to complete over 2,000 dives around the world.

🌍 From the Mediterranean to Madagascar

Rebecca’s passion for the water took her to Vassiliki, Greece, where she spent three university summers working as a windsurf instructor and Divemaster. After completing a BSc in Ecology, she went on to work as Scuba Diving Manager for the NGO Blue Ventures in Madagascar.

There, she taught a wide range of people—from complete beginners, including those anxious about the water, to experienced Divemasters. This role required a high level of responsibility, leading her to qualify as an Emergency First Response (EFR) Rescue and First Aid Instructor. Today, she brings that same focus on safety, calmness and respect for the water to every lesson.

🧪 Science, School and SEND

In 2009, Rebecca returned to the UK and qualified as a secondary school science teacher. For 15 years, she has taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics, working with both highly academic students and those with complex learning needs.

This experience is her “secret weapon” in the pool. She understands how children learn, how to adapt lessons for different needs, and how to build confidence step by step. She also enjoys bringing elements of science into her sessions—whether exploring streamlined positions or noticing how sound travels underwater.

💙 A Mission for Confidence

Now a mother of two daughters who are keen swimmers themselves, Rebecca is passionate about helping others feel safe, confident and happy in the water. She believes that confidence in the water builds resilience far beyond the pool.

Rebecca is also a keen open-water swimmer and is currently training towards swimming the Strait of Gibraltar in 2028.

✨ Creative, Calm and Safe

Rebecca’s sessions are about more than technique. Drawing on her love of marine environments—particularly sharks and seagrass—she brings creativity and imagination into her teaching, turning lessons into engaging underwater adventures.

With her Level 2 Teaching qualification, NRASTC rescue award, and extensive international experience, your child won’t just learn to swim—they will learn to feel confident and at ease in the water.
